St. Prokop

St. Prokop

He was a Benedictine monk from the Břevnov monastery who fell in love with solitude and chose to live in a cave by a river. Through his model life he gave an example to many people. He became confessor to the Bohemian ruler Oldřich, who in 1032 founded a monastery of which St. Prokop became abbot.
According to legend, St. Prokop had such power over evil spirits that he forced them to plough the fields. For this reason he is depicted with the devil in chains at his feet.
He is buried in the Church of All Saints in Prague Castle.

His legacy:
He was a saint to whom the Lord gave power over the devil here on earth. His example can give us the strength to resist evil. (Let us pray to him in the time of temptation, so that he might intercede for our victory over evil.)
