Charles Bridge

Charles Bridge

A unique open-air gallery of statues that has gradually been created over several centuries. Pilgrims pass by statues of saints and members of different religious orders, who gaze down on them from each side. They line the path to Prague Castle, the seat of kings and emperors. The tower over the Old Town entrance to the bridge speaks to us in the secret language of symbols. Nor was the date the foundation stone of the bridge was laid chosen at random, but was fixed to the exact minute by the Emperor Charles IV, a man of deep religious convictions, in an attempt to achieve the harmony and order he desired. Charles Bridge, a unique work of art, forms the true heart of this city.
