The Archbishop's Palace

The Archbishop's Palace

The efforts of the rulers of Bohemia in the distant past finally led to Prague being recognised as the seat of a bishopric in 973, and it was later raised to the status of an archbishopric. This building, which today has a rococo appearance, has served the Prague archdiocese since the 16th century. Its importance as the seat of the head of the Czech Catholic church is underlined by its location next to the Castle complex overlooking the city. It is separated from the seat of the Bohemian rulers by the short distance of the moat that formerly surrounded the Castle.
